The second Sino-German Shanghai Workshop on Type 2 Diabetes was successfully held in China from June 6 to 12 2010, which is supported by the BMBF “Deutsch-Chinesisches Jahr der Wissenschaft und Bildung” . The first part of the workshop was internal and was held in Hangzhou from June 7 to 9, 2009. In total, 14 scientists from German and China have participated. It started with welcome by Prof. Dr. Yixue Li from SCBIT and Prof. Dr. Dr. H.-Erich Wichmann from HMGU and it was followed by ten talks highlighting results of joint research efforts. Prof. H.-Erich Wichmann and Dr. Christian Gieger also gave lectures at the International Outstanding Scientist Lecture Series at Key Laboratory of Systems Biology, Shanghai Institute for Biological Sciences (SIBS), Chinese Academic of Science (CAS). The workshop was very successful and productive and it’s agreed to continue und further intensify the collaboration.

It consists of 22 institutes and 3 independent departments. It employs more than 1600 scientists, students and technical staff and runs a budget of 156 Million Euro.
