Professor Astrid Lagreid, who was the former ProRector of the Norwegian University of Science and technology (NTNU) from 2005-2009, and Professor Martin Kuiper visited our center on May 31. They are warmly welcome by Director Yixue Li, and other PIs. Both Norwegian professors are pioneer scientists in the field of Systems Biology in Norway. Their major research interest is to build computational models of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that mediate responses to the gastric hormone gastrin, and to use these models to rank candidate biomarkers for future development of improved diagnosis and prognosis of gastrointestinal disease and in the design of further wet-lab experiments. Both sides introduced their research achievements and current developments. The Norwegian guests are highly impressed by the research strength and capabilities of SCBIT. Further in depth collaboration between SCBIT and NTNU has been agreed upon and will be pursued on areas such as microRNA regulation, differential co-expression gene sets analysis, medical bioinformatics and the construction of related knowledge base.
