SCBIT is composed of 14 departments：Administration Office, Biomedical Informatics Research Group, Functional Genomics Research Group, Systems Biology Research Group, Translational Medicine Research Group, Pathogen Genomics Research Group, Evolutionary Biology Research Group, Computational Chemical Biology Research Group, Bioinformatics Application Software R&D, Technology Support, Life Science Data Center, Software Department and Deep Sequencing Data Analysis Department.
The development of biomedical informatics system, laboratory information management system, life science data center and omicsinformation analysis system has made great progress. Some marketed products has been framework developed, other has been semifinished products and other has been ready to be promoted. Our life science data center has built Schistosoma japonicum database, medical microbiology database, HotData database, Brain Protein database, paralogous protein database, Arabidopsis thaliana protein-protein interaction database, disease-related protein mutation information database, human body fluid information database, Experimental and patented gene database, Post-translational modification Protein database, zinc finger protein database and Protein dynamic network information database.
Also several data analytical systems or platforms have been developed, including Small Molecule Functional Alignment System, Gene interaction network prediction system, Chinese Medicine components and protein interaction prediction and analysis system, Microarray Data Quality Management System, Conserved Sequence fragment chromosome localization and analysis system, Transcription Factor prediction and recognition system. Most of these systems have been put into public services and we developed a novel method for dynamical study of protein-protein interaction and network construction. Furthermore, achievements over the past years will be gradually integrated into the "OmicsExplore" system of significant National 863 Program which is carried by Center. At the same time, strengthen promotion from training, marketing promotion and sales is needed.
Under the support of Ministry of Science and Technology, Shanghai Science and Technology Committee and Development and Reform Commission, center has established and developed technical standard and integrated database system including international and domestic main bioinformatics resources database; established workable bioinformatics resources submission platform; established bioinformatics resources sharing mechanisms and set up technical support system and both international and domestic cooperation channels under the support of Shanghai Science and Technology Committee; established and continuously improved genome functional annotation, biochip data analysis, proteins data analysis, human diseases research, small molecules function analysis and target genes of high-throughput screening technology bioinformatics system. Center has many important achievements in system modeling, quantitative data access and analysis, data integration and its interaction on network analysis technology platform construction. Center has reached international advanced level in the research of proteomics and cellular signal transduction. Center has also achieved remarkable results in systems biology and bioinformatics. Center now has 14 research groups covering all fields in bioinformatics and technology research, taking more than 10 significant national and local research projects including 973, 863,technology support, special major in infectious diseases, key on natural science and other kinds of research projects in Shanghai. By December 2012, Center has 59 final projects including 21 national programs and 38 Shanghai programs, and 26 research projects including 14 national programs and 59 Shanghai programs. 200 research articles on bioinformatics has been published in famous scientific journals indexed by SCI, including Nature, Science, Nature Genetics, PNAS, MCP, Bioinformatics, Science, BMC Bioinformatics, Oncogene, Nature Biotechnology, JBC, JTB, Molecular Systems Biology, Plos Computational Biology, PlosOne, etc.. With more than 730 impact factors, Center not only applied 18 invention patents, but also gained 88 software copyrights.
Center expands research landscape and enhances cooperations with Chinese National Human Genome Center, National Engineering Center for Biochip, Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences and other research center or institutes. Center improves bioinformatics technology support system faced with application and national needs. Moreover, based on the biomedical informatics research department, Center develops and deepen cooperations with Zhongshan Hospital, Tumor Hospital, Shanghai CDC, Shanghai Public Health Center, Shanghai 9th People's Hospital, Fudan University, 新生源公司. For the chain of research programs and the guidance of research and development service, Center has made remarkable research progress in clinical medicine information management system, sample construction and enterprise information management system of pharmaceutical development, which has greatly improved service and technological development capability and became marketed products laying the foundation for service items of marketing operation.Among international cooperations, Center has established the relationship with the University of Rostock of Medicine in developing DPG program actively in order to achieve great progress in the research of regenerative medicine. At the same time, Center needs to further enhance the relations with EMBL, EBI, US National Center for bioinformatics, US Cancer Center, DDBJ, Imperial College London, University of California, University of Illinois, oncology biostatistics research center of Vanderbilt University, Immunology Institute of University of Rostock, Epidemiology Institute in Munich, University of Waterloo in Canada, National University of Singapore and other famous universities and research institutes. Moreover, Center has realized the exchange of visits with EBI, Inforsense Co. Ltd., Windber Institute and National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering of NIH. In addition, Center has not only sent the leader of research group to attend the ISMB International Bioinformatics Annual Conference but also invited some peers to conduct academic exchanges which most speakers are academic experts.These cooperations and exchanges has established a learning, exchange and development platform for researchers, which helped enhance the capability of research and innovation and promote China's bioinformatics research to meet the international standards.
